Another One Gone In The Blink of an Eye

Time creeps along undisturbed. A month has almost gone by. I was careful when I blinked, yet I seemed to have misplaced my gaze.

Where does the month dash off to now? The revelry of 2023 has just begun. I’m still not ready to say goodbye. January, please don’t leave yet.

My affairs need to be sorted; heaps of errands and chores nudge at my temples. Backlogged thoughts bark at my brain’s gates. My headspace is left cluttered and confused.

There’s so much to be done. Please don’t be hasty with your run.

January, I see you making your way to the door – what is that in your hand?...

…Why do you have all your luggage all packed and prepped to go? Stay right there – I mean it this time – Your belongings, they’re all gone! Was this always a one-night stand?

Listen, Jan, hear me out. It doesn’t have to end this way. I know you’re feeling blue, I feel the same way too.

But…

My affairs need to be sorted, heaps of errands and chores nudge at my temples. Backlogged thoughts bark at my brain’s gates. My headspace is left cluttered and confused.

If you give me more time, I’ll grant you the attention you deserve. We can stroll along outside later this frigid evening, minus 2°C isn’t so bad these days…

Okay fine, just leave then. I preferred February anyway.

Sorry, I didn’t mean it. Please, will you stay?

There’s too much to be done, so why do you keep on running away?

Maybe this week can extend to maybe the rest of the year? I know, I’m getting ahead of myself. But I’m committed here, and I don’t want to hurry along.

January, I’m not ready to say goodbye. But I know when I turn away, you’ll be gone in the blink of an eye.
