If Trees Could Talk

If trees could talk, oh how the forest would groan.

Of a tale of a boy who wandered into them all alone.

Despite every wandering soul it beheld over countless centuries,

He was one adventurer that would spring first into their memories.

When he first came, he appeared despondent in spirit.

The boy delved deep beyond the forest clearing, far into its primaeval thicket.

When assured he was out of range, the boy unloaded a shrill screech

A haunting echo from his throat that trembled through oak, pine and beech.

The trees' ears rang day and night

With his mournful cries that were now out of sight.

The wounded beast returned every weekend in the mid-afternoon,

Unburdening his vulnerable wrath upon them like a discordant tune.

By the end, his throat no longer clenched under the strain of anger.

Soon the boy withdrew from the forest after cutting loose his anchor.

He began walking with a spring in his steps,

Now returning to the forest to pay his respects.

For many years to come, he’d delight in the sight of his sanctum

And the forest in turn would cherish his presence and thank him.

For with each visit he’d plant seeds to grow,

So someday the forest can continue to bear another drifter’s sorrow.

Now an adult no longer suppressed,

The man brought others despondent and depressed.

He understood the healing power of nature,

That the forest itself could be a therapeutic saviour.

If trees could talk, oh how the forest would groan.

Of a tale of a boy who wandered into them all alone.

They’d talk of how he became a man now revitalised with expression,

Because they listened and allowed him to bear his confession.

I decided to dabble in poetry for this piece. While it may be a rudimentary level of poetry writing, I hope others enjoy reading it nonetheless. For those who’ve ever felt they had to suppress their emotions to protect others, know that you’re not alone.
