A Fond Farewell

A fond farewell is no easy feat.

For it often leaves the soul feeling bittersweet.

A long-awaited reunion has come to pass,

Now is the time to part ways again, but alas,

Whether it is bid with a hug and a kiss, or a wave of the hand, 

The sentimental weight of goodbyes is something we’ll always understand.

While this separation shall soon be a perished thought,

Then why does one inevitably appear distraught?

In one’s mind, time loiters along and can even flounder,

So uphold the promise: “let’s stay in touch” until our next encounter.
